Maine Man Arrested For Assaulting Officers During January 6th Capitol Riot

A Maine man has been arrested on felony charges for his alleged role in the January 6th, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Andre Maurice Bonneau, 64, of Lewiston, is accused of assaulting and resisting law enforcement officers during the riot.

According to court documents, Bonneau was captured on video pushing a bike rack barricade into police officers in an attempt to breach their line. He struggled with officers for approximately 20 seconds before being repelled with batons and chemical irritants.

Bonneau faces multiple charges, including felony assault on law enforcement and obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder. If convicted, he could face significant prison time.

This arrest is part of the ongoing investigation into the January 6th insurrection. To date, over 1,500 individuals have been charged with crimes related to the Capitol breach, with more than 560 facing felony charges for assaulting or impeding law enforcement.

The FBI’s Boston and Washington Field Offices are leading the investigation, with assistance from the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division.
