Chicago Police and the FBI are investigating an incident where maggots were allegedly placed in the breakfast buffet served to delegates at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday.
The incident occurred at the Fairmont hotel, where delegates from several states are staying.
Witnesses reported two women running from a bathroom and throwing maggots onto the food. One person was treated on-scene. The Ohio delegation’s breakfast was unaffected as it was on a different floor.

This incident is the latest in a series of disruptions targeting the convention, including multiple bomb threats at hotels. No one has claimed responsibility for the breakfast buffet incident, but it’s being condemned as an unacceptable attack.
“We ran out every single threat yesterday, and they are continuing to come in today,” Derek Mayer, the deputy Secret Service special agent in charge, said at a Wednesday morning briefing.
The hotel responded swiftly, cleaning and sanitizing the area and ensuring the event could continue. They reiterated their commitment to maintaining high food safety standards.
