HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), in collaboration with the Tampa Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol, conducted a joint-agency enforcement initiative, “Lucky To Be Safe,” on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2025, to combat impaired driving.

The initiative aimed to ensure a safe holiday celebration by removing intoxicated drivers from Hillsborough County roadways. Throughout the day, law enforcement agencies intensified DUI enforcement, targeting dangerous driving behaviors.

“Driving under the influence is a reckless and inexcusable decision that puts lives at risk, and we will take strong action against those who endanger others,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “If you drive impaired, you will be caught, you will be arrested, and you will face the consequences. Our deputies work tirelessly to keep these dangerous individuals off our roads, and we will continue to do whatever it takes to protect the people of Hillsborough County.”

The “Lucky To Be Safe” operation resulted in the following enforcement totals:

  • Traffic Stops: 142
  • Citations: 9
  • DUI Arrests: 12
  • Total Weekend DUI Arrests: 33

The combined efforts of the HCSO, Tampa Police Department, and Florida Highway Patrol demonstrate a commitment to road safety and the prevention of alcohol-related accidents.
