U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced today that Tonya Butler, 55, of Slidell, Louisiana, was sentenced to four years of probation and 150 hours of community service for making false statements to the Railroad Retirement Board.
According to court records, Butler falsely claimed sickness benefits from January to April 2022 while working full-time for a trucking company. Her actions resulted in a loss of approximately $7,345.52 to the Railroad Retirement Board and an additional $62,000 in short-term disability and COVID-19-related funds to which she was not entitled.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the investigative work of Amtrak – Office of Inspector General and the Railroad Retirement Board – Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Financial Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
