A trucker from a small Gulf Coast town in Louisiana recently prevailed in his bid to hoist and wave a flag proclaiming “F–k Biden.”
According to The Blaze, Ross Brunet sued the city of Grand Isle after officials adopted an ordinance aimed at outlawing his flag. The banner, which Brunet put on his truck, stated, “F–k Biden and f–k you for voting for him.”
NBC News noted that in 2021 and 2022, the town repeatedly cited Brunet for waving the flag. He allegedly violated rules that banned public displays of “patently obscene” words, photos or depictions.

Last September, the city thought it settled the matter with an ordinance that outlawed signs on vehicles that exceeded 20 inches by 30 inches or featuring language that described a sex act or was “deemed offensive and vulgar.”
Aided by the Tulane First Amendment Law Clinic, Brunet sued the city, asserting that the local law violated his right to free speech.
In the lawsuit, Brunet’s lawyers argued, “Mr. Brunet’s speech has in fact been chilled. He is fearful of and refrains from engaging in his protected political speech in Grand Isle, out of fear of government punishment or further retaliatory action.”
Last week, The Blaze reported, the city settled the case, admitting that Brunet was “wrongfully cited for engaging in constitutionally protected speech of flying flags with political message.”

As part of its deal with Brunet, officials agreed to repeal the ordinance by Oct. 20. The city must also pay his $40,000 legal bill.
