Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy appeared on Newsmax Wednesday and said he’s concerned that the increasingly extreme positions of some Democratic lawmakers could simultaneously bolster the Republican Party but still damage the country.
In a speech at the Human Rights Campaign event on Monday evening, Democrat Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett stepped up to the podium to voice her criticisms of the Republican leaders in her state and called Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, “Governor Hot Wheels” and described him as a “hot ass mess.” During an appearance on “The Record with Greta Van Susteren,” Kennedy said that despite the political gains, he’s concerned for the country’s well-being.

“They got beat in the election. And I thought they’d hit rock bottom, but apparently rock bottom has a basement,” Kennedy said. “All this is great for the Republican Party, all this lunacy, but it’s bad for America. And I wish they’d stop it. But, you know, just from a political standpoint, you never interfere with your enemy when he’s kicking his own ass.”
Kennedy also commented on Crockett’s antics, and he did not hold back in his assessment of his political opponents.
“Let me say I don’t hate anybody. When I say my prayers, I ask God, don’t let me hate. It’s hard sometimes in Washington. I don’t know Congresswoman Crockett, I think he said her name was,” Kennedy said. “I don’t know her. She’s entitled to her opinion, but I’m entitled to mine. I’ve said this before, I think the Republicans’ secret operation, secret weapon, ought to be called ‘Operation Let Them Speak.’”
Kennedy suggested a hands-off approach might be most effective.
“As far as I’m concerned, I would turn the congresswoman loose and let her keep talking. She’s making our case for us. She’s a member of the loon wing of the Democratic Party. All Democrats aren’t like that, but the loon wing is in control,” Kennedy added.

Crockett’s remark about the Republican governor is one of several comments she has made against Republicans and allies of President Donald Trump. Crockett admitted that her priority is opposing Trump rather than passing legislation.
Republican Texas Rep. Randy Weber announced he intends to propose a censure resolution against Crockett. It remains uncertain if the resolution will be deemed privileged, potentially obligating House GOP leadership to conduct a vote on the censure.
