Julius Augillard, a 38-year-old New Orleans resident, seems to have a fondness for firearms that goes beyond the typical enthusiast. Unfortunately for him, his love of guns has landed him in some hot water with the law, specifically two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Apparently, Mr. Augillard just couldn’t resist bringing his trusty Smith & Wesson to the Mardi Gras festivities on Bourbon Street back in February 2023. Perhaps he felt a need to “protect” himself from flying beads and rogue parades? Whatever his reasoning, a short foot chase with Louisiana State Police Troopers ended with the firearm being confiscated and Augillard facing charges.

Not one to be deterred, Augillard was caught again on New Year’s Eve 2023, this time with a different pistol while trespassing at an apartment complex. One might wonder if he was hoping to ring in the new year with a bang, but thankfully, Housing Authority of New Orleans officers intervened.
It seems Mr. Augillard may have missed the memo that felons and firearms don’t mix. He now faces up to 15 years in prison and a hefty fine for each count. Perhaps he’ll use his time behind bars to take up a new hobby, like knitting or competitive checkers.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that aims to reduce gun violence and make communities safer. Let’s hope Mr. Augillard’s story serves as a reminder that sometimes, it’s best to leave the firearms at home.
