Louisiana Mail Contractor Indicted For Forged Check Scam And Mail Theft

A federal grand jury in Louisiana has indicted Rachel Watts Sanders, 39, of Loranger, on charges of bank fraud and mail theft. Sanders, a mail contractor in Franklinton, is accused of stealing over 40 checks from the mail, forging endorsements, and depositing them into her own bank account.

According to the indictment, Sanders allegedly targeted checks from the mail, manipulating them for personal financial gain. The stolen checks were fraudulently deposited into Sanders’ bank account, resulting in substantial losses for the intended recipients.

If convicted, Sanders faces serious consequences, with a maximum penalty of 30 years imprisonment for bank fraud and five years for mail theft. Additional penalties include supervised release and significant fines.

This case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, highlighting the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies to combat mail-related crimes. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero of the General Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
