WIMAUMA, Fla. – A residential structure fire on Haddon Mist Drive in Wimauma Sunday afternoon caused significant damage and has displaced a local family. The blaze, which fire officials say was caused by multiple lithium-ion batteries, extended into the home’s attic.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched after the emergency dispatch center received multiple 911 calls reporting the fire. The first units to arrive found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage.

Firefighters quickly advanced a hose line into the residence to combat the fire. During their operations, they discovered the fire had spread into the attic. Additional fire crews were called to assist with the firefighting efforts, establish a secure water supply, and conduct searches of the residence.
Authorities confirmed that there were no occupants inside the house at the time of the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among either civilians or the first responders.

The American Red Cross has been contacted to provide assistance to the family displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire has been investigated and determined to be related to multiple lithium-ion batteries.
