POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Seems a trip to the Sunshine State turned a bit sour for a father-son duo from Tennessee last week. Franklin Smith II, the 42-year-old original, and his 18-year-old sequel, Franklin Smith III, decided to spice up their road trip with a bit of breakfast banditry.

The pair rolled into the Love’s Travel Stop in Davenport, with Frank2 fueling up on breakfast sandwiches and a fountain drink big enough to swim in, while Frank3 went for the classic hotdog and banana combo, also with a supersized beverage. Then, in a move that would make any seasoned dine-and-dasher proud, they strolled out without paying.

Alas, their $26 culinary caper didn’t go unnoticed. A vigilant employee promptly alerted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, and the dynamic duo was soon apprehended.

Frank2 and Frank3 were treated to a complimentary ride to the Sheriff’s Processing Center, followed by an all-inclusive stay at the renowned Grady Judd’s Bed & Breakfast, where they were both charged with retail theft.

So, here’s a friendly PSA to anyone planning a visit to Polk County: Leave your sticky fingers at home. We take our breakfast seriously down here, and even a petty theft will land you a cozy cell with a view of the barbed wire.
