Life Sentence For Man In 2023 Tampa Shooting Death

TAMPA, Fla. – Joel Elkanah has been sentenced to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of shooting and killing a man in Tampa in 2023.

Assistant State Attorneys Ron Gale and Peyton Rydell successfully prosecuted the case, with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office as the investigating agency.

On Friday, June 2, 2023, deputies responded to a reported shooting on the 12100 block of Nebraska Avenue shortly after 7 p.m.

They found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds, who was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. Four days later, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Joel Elkanah Jr. turned himself in to authorities without incident.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to bring justice to the victim and the victim’s loved ones,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in 2023.
