Largo Man Charged With First-Degree Murder After Wife Dies From Christmas Day Stabbing

LARGO, Fla. – A tragic domestic disturbance on Christmas Day has escalated to a murder charge after the victim, a woman who had suffered blunt force trauma, succumbed to her injuries on December 30, 2024.

The suspect, 78-year-old Jonathan McPhee, who initially called authorities on December 25 to report the incident, is now charged with First-Degree Murder. McPhee remains in critical condition at an area hospital due to a self-inflicted stab wound.

On Christmas Day, Largo Police received a 911 call from McPhee, who admitted to attacking his wife and stated his intention to take his own life. Officers arrived at the home on Pinecone Way to find McPhee with a stab wound and the victim gravely injured. Both were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

McPhee was initially charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, but the charges were upgraded following the victim’s death.

Largo Police detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. No additional details have been released at this time.
