LARGO, FL. – On Saturday at approximately 12:11 pm, officers of the Largo Police Department were dispatched to a vehicle vs. bicycle traffic crash at the intersection of 8th Ave SW and the Pinellas County Trail.
The initial investigation shows that the bicycle failed to stop for the eastbound traffic and entered the roadway. A Toyota Highlander then struck the bicyclist as it was crossing the road.
Police say the bicyclist was ground transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota sustained no injuries and alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
The Largo Police Departments Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation. The roadway is now open, according to police.
