Large Bale Of Cocaine Found Floating In The Ocean Off Of Florida Coast

A large 55-pound bale of suspected cocaine was found about 50 miles off of Florida's coast on Sunday.

A large 55-pound bale of suspected cocaine was found about 50 miles off of Florida’s coast on Sunday.

According to investigators, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to Coconut Mallory Marina in Key West Saturday at approximately 3:38 p.m. regarding narcotics found floating in the ocean.

Key West Police Department Officers were already present and spoke to the reporting person who stated he found the bale approximately 50 miles offshore.

Deputies say there were 25 rectangle-shaped bricks in the bale. They were wrapped in green plastic with black XXX decals on each.

The estimated total weight was approximately 55 pounds.  

The bricks were turned over to the Sheriff’s Office Property and Evidence Division and will be turned over to federal authorities.
