PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – A 40-year-old woman from Land O’ Lakes was fatally struck by a Ford Explorer on State Road 54 near Crescent Moon Drive in Lutz on July 27, 2024.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman, whose identity has not been released, was stopped on the outside road edge of SR-54 for unknown reasons. As the Ford Explorer, driven by a 21-year-old Lutz man, passed by, the woman opened her car door and exited, colliding with the vehicle.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Explorer was not injured, and a 37-year-old Odessa man, a passenger in the woman’s vehicle, sustained minor injuries.
The incident is under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to the woman’s sudden exit from her stopped vehicle.
