LAND O’ LAKES, Fla. – Motorists in the Land O’ Lakes area should anticipate increased daytime traffic congestion on SR 54 over the next few months due to roadwork.

The construction is related to the US 41 / SR 54 resurfacing project, during which voids were discovered under SR 54 east of the Lowe’s / Village Lake shopping center intersection. These voids require extensive repairs that will involve lane closures in both the eastbound and westbound directions to allow for grout to be pumped under the roadway.

The initial phase of lane closures is scheduled for:

  • Dates: Monday, April 14, 2025, through Friday, April 18, 2025
  • Time: 9 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m.
  • Location: Eastbound SR 54 from west of US 41 to west of Osprey Lane.

During this period:

  • A single lane will be closed on eastbound SR 54 in the US 41 area.
  • This will lead to two of three lanes being closed approaching and within the work zone.
  • All traffic movements, including access to side streets and driveways, will remain available.

Here’s what drivers can expect during the overall repair work:

  1. Most of the work will be done during the day with single lane closures due to material delivery constraints.
  2. Double lane closures will be implemented daily for about six weekdays. An extended double lane closure will be in place for two days over a weekend (specific dates to be determined).
  3. Except for the weekend work, lane closures are planned from 9 a.m. to 4/5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  4. The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 45 MPH (from the usual 50 MPH).
  5. Increased congestion and traffic delays beyond normal seasonal levels are anticipated due to the lane reductions. Crews will strive to minimize the duration of lane closures.
  6. Once the void repair work is completed, milling and resurfacing operations will be conducted at night on SR 54 from the US 41 intersection to east of Knight Road.

Drivers are advised to plan accordingly for potential delays and seek alternative routes if possible.
