LAKELAND, Fla. – An 18-year-old Lakeland resident was arrested early Saturday morning after engaging in a high-speed race and being found in possession of illegal drugs.
Jarrett Sabine was taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office following a traffic stop in Eagle Lake.
According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report, Deputy Martin was on patrol in the Eagle Lake area around 12:54 a.m. when he observed a white Nissan Maxima and a silver Honda stopped at a traffic light on U.S. 17 and Spirit Lake Road.

When the light turned green, both vehicles accelerated rapidly, with the Nissan reaching speeds of 115 mph while driving without headlights.
Deputy Martin conducted a traffic stop on the Nissan and made contact with Sabine, the driver. Sabine admitted to racing the other vehicle, stating, “I’m so sorry, the other car asked me to race.” A search of the vehicle revealed cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Sabine was arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail. He faces charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and racing.
He was also cited for several traffic infractions, including turning without signaling, operating a vehicle at night without lights, careless driving, and illegal window tint.
