LAKELAND, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has recovered two stolen black swans and their six eggs, bringing a happy ending to a bizarre theft that occurred last week at a Lakeland mobile home park.
The swans and eggs were stolen from the Highland Village Mobile Home Park on Brannen Road on the evening of Wednesday, February 12th. Security footage captured two suspects at the scene during the time of the theft.
Thanks to tips from the public and diligent detective work, the swans and eggs were located in Cutler Bay, Florida. Detectives returned the swans and eggs to their home in Lakeland on Monday afternoon.
“I’m thrilled that these swans were quickly and safely found and will soon be back home. My sincere thanks to this member of the community for doing the right thing by reaching out to us upon discovering they had been stolen. We couldn’t accomplish these good outcomes without the support of outstanding citizens,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
The investigation has also led to the identification of two suspects:
- Alfredo Casanova, 29, of Homestead
- Jordan Montoya, 27, of Homestead
Arrest warrants have been obtained for both suspects on charges of grand theft and burglary of a structure.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Casanova or Montoya is urged to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Agriculture Crimes Unit at 863-534-7205.
