LAKELAND, Fla. – A Lakeland man’s attempt to evade deputies on Thursday evening ended with him in jail facing new charges.
37-year-old Joshua Abercrombie was spotted riding his bicycle in the area of McIntosh Drive and McGregor Street in Lakeland around 7:24 PM when a Polk County Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop. Instead of complying, Abercrombie sped off on his bike in an attempt to flee.
His escape was short-lived, however, as he quickly lost control and crashed.

While being escorted to the patrol car, Abercrombie admitted he fled because he had an outstanding warrant. He was right. Abercrombie had an active warrant for violation of probation related to previous charges of methamphetamine possession, drug paraphernalia possession, and resisting arrest.
The story doesn’t end there. Deputies also found Abercrombie in possession of a debit card belonging to someone else, which he claimed to have found.
