Lakeland Man Indicted For Illegal Ammunition Possession

LAKELAND, Fla. – A federal grand jury has indicted Solomon Smith, a 22-year-old resident of Lakeland, Florida, on charges of possessing ammunition as a convicted felon.

The indictment alleges that Smith, who has prior felony convictions including carrying a concealed firearm, was found in possession of various rounds of ammunition on July 2, 2024.

If convicted, Smith could face up to 15 years in federal prison. The government is also seeking the forfeiture of the ammunition allegedly involved in the offense.

This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a collaborative initiative between law enforcement agencies and communities aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Lakeland Police Department, and the case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang.
