Lakeland House Explosion Overnight Damages Nearby Homes, Lakes At Laurel Highlands

LAKELAND, Fla. – A two-story home in the Lakes at Laurel Highlands subdivision exploded overnight and left debris covering yards and damaging nearby homes.

Lakeland Fire Department received the emergency alarm at 3:02 AM and were on scene for the working structure fire at 3:09 AM. Crews worked to extinguish the fire until 6:40 AM Wednesday.

Sources say the home at 2121 Blue Highlands Drive was unoccupied and possibly listed for sale; however, the MLS does not show the home as an active listing.

Insulation and debris from the explosion and fire, covered nearby roofs and yards.

Fire officials say that no injuries were sustained in the explosion or subsequent fire.

Investigators say that a occupants of a nearby home were relocated to a safe location due to the fire exposure while crews were working the blaze.

Fire Officials said, “The cause is being treated as suspicious and is currently under investigation by our Fire Investigators.”
