LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A Lake County woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison following a violent home invasion in March 2022.

Dayzha Duncan, 28, was found guilty by a jury of Battery, Burglary of a Dwelling, Petit Theft, and Assault. The charges stemmed from an incident where Duncan forcefully entered the victim’s home, physically assaulted them, and stole a gold necklace.

According to the victim’s testimony, Duncan and another individual pushed their way into the residence after the victim answered a knock at the door. Duncan then proceeded to strike the victim, pull them to the floor, kick them in the stomach, and steal their necklace before fleeing the scene.

The entire incident was captured on video by Duncan’s accomplice, providing crucial evidence for the prosecution. Senior Detective Abston led the investigation, which resulted in an arrest warrant for Duncan. She was later apprehended in Georgia.

“The defendant’s actions were nothing short of reprehensible. It’s disgraceful to attack anyone, but over a trivial dispute shows a shocking lack of regard for human life,” said Bill Gladson, Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney. “Despite going through this horrifying ordeal, the victim was adept enough to relay crucial information to officials which led to the defendant’s arrest and successful prosecution of this case.”

Assistant State Attorneys Rachel Jones and Chelsey Omega successfully prosecuted the case.
