LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Jephson Seguin, 22, has been found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by 15 years of sex offender probation, for attempted sexual battery and attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, among other charges. He was also designated as a sexual predator.
Seguin pleaded guilty in the courtroom of Judge James R. Baxley to charges stemming from a 2023 incident, including Attempted Sexual Battery with Force Likely to Cause Injury While Wearing a Mask, Attempted First-Degree Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer with a Weapon While Wearing a Mask, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement.
“The sense of security taken from this victim by this defendant and the crimes he committed after that are deserving of this fifteen-year sentence,” commented Walter Forgie, Chief Assistant State Attorney.
The case originated in June 2023, when Eustis Police Department (EPD) officers responded to a report of an attempted sexual battery. The victim reported that a man wearing a grey, black, and white hoodie and a surgical mask had grabbed and groped them before throwing them to the ground on Morningview Drive. After the victim yelled for him to stop, the suspect fled, and gunshots were subsequently fired.
Responding officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description hiding in a black truck nearby. When officers attempted to approach, the man fled and attempted to run over an officer, who then fired at the truck. Home surveillance footage confirmed the suspect running from the attack location to the parked vehicle.

The truck was identified as belonging to Seguin, and an arrest warrant was issued. Two days later, Seguin was found with a bullet wound and admitted to being the driver of the truck when the officer fired. The truck, located at his grandmother’s house, contained DNA evidence matching Seguin, as well as a surgical mask similar to the one described by the victim and officers.
Assistant State Attorney Thomas Wieczorek successfully prosecuted the case.
