A Kentucky mother is facing multiple felony charges after her 10-year-old daughter allegedly told investigators she was repeatedly confined to a dog crate for days at a time.
Sheila Mann, 31, of Richmond, Kentucky, was arrested in June and formally charged this week with first-degree strangulation, multiple counts of child abuse, unlawful imprisonment, wanton endangerment, and terroristic threatening.
According to court documents and statements made by Richmond Police Chief Rodney Richardson, the child disclosed during a forensic interview that her mother would lock her inside a dog kennel-like cage for two to three days, only allowing her out to use the bathroom.

The victim also described other instances of alleged abuse, including being strangled by her mother and threatened with having her throat slit. The alleged abuse occurred over a period of several months earlier this year.
Mann has denied the allegations, claiming they stem from a misunderstanding.
However, police say the child’s statements were consistent and detailed enough to warrant the charges. The 10-year-old is currently in the care of child protective services.
