Kentucky Man Pleads Guilty To Killing Teen During Carjacking

A Kentucky man has pleaded guilty to carjacking resulting in the death of a 17-year-old.

Michael Dewitt of Louisville admitted to the crime, which occurred on March 1, 2021, in Simpsonville, Kentucky.

According to court documents, Dewitt carjacked a 2011 Ford F-350 at gunpoint. While fleeing the scene in the stolen truck, he collided with another vehicle on Dixie Highway in Louisville, tragically killing the teenage driver.

Dewitt faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. However, if the court accepts the plea agreement, he will be sentenced to 29 years and 4 months. Sentencing is scheduled for January 27, 2025.

This case was investigated by the FBI, Louisville Metro Police Department, and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
