Kentucky Man Indicted On Federal Mail Theft Charges

A Kentucky man is facing federal charges after being indicted last month for allegedly stealing mail from residential mailboxes late last year.

The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury in Paducah on March 11, 2025, charges Austin L. Jones, 34, with theft of mail matter. According to the indictment, Jones is accused of stealing mail from residences in Calloway County on or about December 18, 2024.

The charges were announced jointly by U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, U.S. Postal Inspector in Charge Lesley Allison of the Pittsburg Division, and Chief Samuel Bierds of the Murray Police Department.

Jones made his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky on Monday, April 21, 2025.

If convicted of the charge, Jones faces a maximum statutory sentence of five years in federal prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
