With less than 10 percent of the estimated vote left to count in Arizona’s governor race, Democrat Katie Hobbs leads Republican Kari Lake by 1% point or 24,772 votes as of Monday afternoon.
Lake is expected to close in on Hobbs’s lead with the next vote drop this evening, but it’s a nail-biter.
According to the Arizona secretary of state’s office, roughly 169,500 votes are left to count statewide as of Monday.
To pull out a win, Lake would need about 57% of the remaining ballots to tabulate in her favor.
“Send every person you know to http://KariLake.com/cure to check the status of their ballot. Everyone! Make sure your voice is heard!!” Lake tweeted on Monday.
Maricopa County said they expect another round of votes to be updated tonight.
“Thank you, @MaricopaVote staff, for your diligent work in getting every eligible ballot counted securely and accurately! Stay tuned for another update this evening,” tweeted Maricopa County.
The vast majority of the remaining votes will come from Arizona’s three most populous counties: Maricopa County, which includes the Phoenix area, Pima County, which includes Tucson and stretches westward, and Pinal County, which includes areas between the two cities.
In a statement Sunday night, Hobbs’ campaign said, “Katie has led since the first round of ballots were counted, and after tonight’s results, it’s clear this won’t change.”
On Monday, former President Donald Trump said on Truth Social, “I assume everyone is watching Arizona as the great Kari Lake’s easy election win is slowly, yet systematically, being drained away from her, and from the American people. This is a very sad thing to watch. Mail in Ballots, long election counts, many day elections, machines that very few people understand, massive counting centers, and more, are an American disaster. Our elections have become an unreliable joke, and the whole world is watching!”
