A routine traffic stop in Walton County turned into a significant drug bust thanks to the keen nose of a K-9 officer.

On Tuesday, February 4th, a K-9 deputy with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle with a cracked windshield following too closely and making abrupt lane changes on U.S. 331 South. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, 41-year-old Victoria Michelle Campbell of DeFuniak Springs.

Campbell exhibited signs of nervousness, and the deputy deployed K-9 Kenny, who alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Campbell was detained, and a search of the vehicle revealed a pill bottle containing three pills. Campbell claimed to have a prescription, but the labeling on the bottle didn’t match her story. When the deputy attempted to clarify the discrepancy, Campbell quickly swallowed the pills.

She was then arrested for tampering with evidence. During a subsequent search, two more bags of pills were found in Campbell’s pants. The pills tested positive for fentanyl and weighed a total of over 20 grams.

Campbell was charged with tampering with evidence and trafficking in fentanyl. She was released on bond the following day.
