A lawsuit filed by the Washington Post (WaPo) regarding access to Governor Ron DeSantis’ travel records will proceed to a hearing scheduled for August 30 in Leon County Circuit Court.

WaPo contends that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has unlawfully withheld documents concerning DeSantis’ use of state-funded aircraft and records associated with an event in Tampa during his previous presidential campaign.

Circuit Judge Jonathan Sjostrom, who was recently assigned to preside over the case, will oversee the upcoming hearing. Earlier in May, Judge J. Lee Marsh ruled to dismiss Governor DeSantis’ office as a defendant in the lawsuit, determining that it did not possess the disputed records held by the FDLE.

The lawsuit underscores ongoing legal scrutiny over the transparency of public officials’ records, particularly concerning gubernatorial travel expenditures and related documentation.
