In a ruling on Friday, Judge Juan M. Merchan rescheduled the sentencing of former President Donald Trump to November 26.

Originally set for September 18, this change moves the sentencing to just weeks after Election Day, where Trump will be competing against Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

“Adjourning decision on the motion and sentencing, if such is required, should dispel any suggestion that the Court will have issued any decision or imposed sentence either to give an advantage to, or to create a disadvantage for, any political party and or any candidate for any office,” Merchan wrote.
