MSNBC host Joe Scarborough claimed Tuesday that he received many “supportive” phone calls after he revealed that he and his co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
Scarborough said at the start of “Morning Joe” Monday he and Brzezinski met with Trump Friday for the first time in seven years at the Florida estate owned by the president-elect, claiming they needed to “restart communications.” While Scarborough faced criticism on social media for meeting with Trump, he claimed that he was flooded by “very positive” calls from several people.

“I will say also, I just want to say thank you, first of all, to everybody who was so kind last night, but also thank you — Willie, yesterday I saw for the first time what a massive disconnect there was between social media and the real world, because we were flooded with phone calls from people all day, literally around the world, very positive, very supportive, ‘I understand why you did what you did,’ et cetera, et cetera, et cetera,” Scarborough said.

“But once in a while I would get a text, ‘Oh, man, I hope you’re doing okay.’ And I would call them back and I’d go … ‘Eddie, are you on Twitter?’ And he goes, ‘I am.’ I go, ‘I’m not,’” Scarborough continued. “So, we’ve had a good day. Mika just had a wonderful event and it’s fantastic. We’re going to do — all of us will do the best we can do and we’re all working towards a better America.”
Viewers of the MSNBC morning program posted their disapproval on social media, as did fellow MSNBC host Katie Phang, who warned against efforts to “normalize” Trump. “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin accused the married “Morning Joe” co-hosts of electing to figuratively “kiss the ring” of the president-elect and claimed their visit meant they weren’t journalists.
Former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly also roasted Scarborough and Brzezinski over the meeting, with the latter calling Scarborough and Brzezinski “dishonest jokes.”
