CNN host Jim Acosta and commentator Scott Jennings on Tuesday corrected Democratic strategist Maria Cardona when she said Hispanics do not support mass deportation.
Over 50% of Hispanic Americans favor “a new national program to deport all undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S. illegally,” according to a CBS/YouGov poll conducted from June 5-7, with only 47% opposing it, which is beyond the poll’s margin of error. Jennings and Cardona debated over the accuracy of the poll, with Acosta citing data that supported Jennings’ claim.
“What about detention camps and mass deportations?” Acosta asked. “What about that?”

“Mass deportations has majority support in the United States and among Hispanic voters right now. It’s recent polling, you can look it up,” Jennings said.
Over 60% of respondents supported deporting “all” illegal immigrants from the U.S., including most men, women, independents, conservatives, moderates, Republicans, individuals with a four-year college degree, those without a college education, and people over 30, according to the poll. Only black Americans, Democrats, liberals, and adults under 30 were mostly against such a deportation plan.
“No, that’s not true, Scott. No,” Cardona said.
“Maria, it is absolutely true. When we get off the air, and you Google it, you’re going to be embarrassed, but it’s absolutely true,” Jennings responded.
Cardona disputed the accuracy of the poll and said she will send Jennings “actual polling” from superior pollsters, with the commentator repeating she will be “embarrassed.”

“We are showing the CBS poll, 53%-47%,” Acosta chimed in, with a corresponding graphic appearing on the screen.
Cardona said she has “issues” with the poll.
“I just want to make sure people don’t miss it. Who was right? I just want to know who was right,” Jennings said before Cardona touted President Joe Biden’s immigration actions.
Acosta on Friday debated Republican Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett about whether a February Senate border bill would have been helpful or disastrous, with the host characterizing the proposed legislation as a “bipartisan effort to crack down on the border.”
“It just employed more attorneys to allow illegals to get into the country and you know good and well when they get a court date, two years out, that dagnammit, they’re not coming back to court, Jim, come on,” Burchett said, adding, “This thing was a disaster waiting to happen and it was a terrible piece of legislation. It would not have done anything, but hire more lawyers and they want to just to put it into law that we’re going to allow 5,000 illegals a day over the border and that’s all that bill would’ve done.”
