Democratic strategist James Carville demanded on a Thursday podcast that ex-officials in former President Donald Trump’s administration disclose they will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, both recently announced they will be voting for Harris. Carville, on “Politics War Room,” specifically called on Trump’s former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and his former Secretary of Defense James Mattis to say they will cast ballots for the vice president, suggesting it’s necessary to help save the country from the former president.
“I can say something nice about Dick Cheney. He said, ‘I’m voting for Harris. Period … I don’t want to call anybody out by name, but let me give you two initials that I want to call out: Rex Tillerson and Jim Mattis,” Carville said. “If I hear one more story about how they think Trump is a buffoon or is an idiot, why don’t you say something? What are you scared, somebody’s not going to play gin rummy with you at the Dallas Country Club? Or some retired four-star general is not going to sit down and have dinner with you and your wife at the Officers Club?”
“I mean, come on, people, the country’s at risk. If you know something, say something. Do what Cheney did. You don’t have to do what Liz did and endorse Kamala Harris, but just issue a statement: ‘I’m voting for Harris.’ You don’t have to say anything more,” he continued. “Why are you just sitting there watching this goddamn idiot have a chance to be elected?”

MSNBC analyst Donny Deutsch in June called on the military to release an ad campaign against Trump ahead of the November election. Deutsch particularly suggested Mattis, former White House chief of staff John Kelly, former national security adviser H.R. McMaster and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley take part in the campaign, saying it could help turn voters against Trump.
“I think the most compelling advertising campaign would be centered around the military,” Deutsch said. “If we got Mattis, McMaster, Milley and Kelly, to go to screen and say, ‘look this country cannot stand Donald Trump. The defense of this country will not stand Donald Trump. We are great Americans. We believe in the country. We trust this country. We know this country. You can’t vote for Donald Trump.’ I think the military is the secret weapon in this election and I hope those ads come to fruition.”
