POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A tragic single-vehicle crash on North Ridge Trail near Davenport claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman and injured three others on Friday evening.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 2024 Nissan sedan, traveling at a high speed, failed to negotiate a 90-degree turn and left the roadway around 7:54 PM. The vehicle went through a guardrail and fence before colliding with a tree.

Alicia Carmona of Jacksonville, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected from the car and tragically died at the scene. Her two children, a 15-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, were taken to a local hospital and are reportedly in stable condition.

The driver, Tiffany Alexander West of Orlando, sustained facial fractures and was also hospitalized. Investigators observed signs of impairment from Ms. West, and a blood sample was collected for testing.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations unit is leading the investigation, and criminal charges against Ms. West are anticipated. North Ridge Trail was closed for approximately five hours following the crash.
