Jacksonville Man Indicted For Escape From Federal Halfway House

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Brian Keith Speights, 67, of Jacksonville, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for escaping from custody at a halfway house in Jacksonville, Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announced.

If convicted, Speights faces up to five years in federal prison and a maximum of three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, Speights was serving a seven-and-a-half-year sentence, imposed in 2019, for using his Jacksonville residence to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine, and for possessing firearms in furtherance of illegal drug trafficking.

On January 2, 2025, Speights knowingly and willfully escaped from the Bridges Federal Reintegration Center in Jacksonville, where he was lawfully confined. He was apprehended and arrested on the new federal charge on March 17, 2025.

Speights’ arraignment and detention hearing are scheduled for March 19, 2025.
