Iran, China, and Russia fired a diplomatic salvo Friday, jointly denouncing the U.S. “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran in a statement released after a Beijing powwow of their deputy foreign ministers.

The trio demanded that “relevant parties”—a clear jab at Washington—“scrap all unlawful unilateral sanctions” on Iran, framing its nuclear pursuits as “purely peaceful” despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

The International Atomic Energy Agency reports that Iran now holds enough highly enriched uranium for six nuclear bombs, fueling doubts about its claims amid signs of a revived weapons program.

Undeterred, the statement touted the trio’s resolve to deepen ties via BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, platforms Tehran eyes to dodge U.S. sanctions and carve out an alternative economic bloc.

The declaration douses hopes of Russia brokering peace between the U.S. and Iran, despite Kremlin murmurs of mediation this week.

Analysts at CTP-ISW argue Moscow’s too entangled with Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and its “Axis of Resistance” to champion U.S. interests.

As tensions simmer, this Beijing pact signals a defiant front against Washington’s squeeze—sanctions be damned.
