A bizarre incident in Burlington, Iowa, led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man for allegedly shooting his father in the face during an argument about foot odor.
On August 11th, police responded to a shooting on Monarch Drive and found David Carpenter at the scene. Inside the home, they discovered the victim, Carpenter’s father, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the face.

According to the police affidavit, the father stated that the argument began with a comment about Carpenter’s “stinky feet.”
The disagreement escalated to involve family issues, and Carpenter allegedly threatened his father before retrieving a gun from his room. Carpenter claimed the gun discharged accidentally.

Burlington Police arrested Carpenter on charges of attempted murder and child endangerment, as children under 14 were present during the incident.
