INVERNESS, Fla. – A portion of the Withlacoochee State Trail in Citrus County is temporarily closed for construction as part of a $1.3 million resurfacing project.
The closure affects the segment from mile marker 27 (south of the Fort Cooper Trailhead) to mile marker 28.58 (Eden Drive). This section of the trail will remain closed around the clock for up to several weeks to ensure the safety of trail users and construction crews.

Weather permitting, the closed segment is expected to reopen in the first two weeks of September. The public is urged to stay off the closed portion of the trail until it is officially reopened.
This project aims to enhance the trail experience for users by improving the surface conditions. Construction will be carried out in segments to minimize disruption to trail access.
