Inverness Man Killed In SR-44 Collision In Citrus County

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A 44-year-old Inverness man died in a collision on State Road 44 on Wednesday, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

According to the FHP, at approximately 12:10 PM, a GMC Sierra, driven by the Inverness man, was traveling westbound on SR-44 in the outside lane.

A single-unit water tanker truck, driven by a 55-year-old Ocala man, was also traveling westbound on SR-44. The water tanker was watering the grass median within an active construction zone and had its amber warning lights activated.

As the GMC approached the water tanker near the intersection of South Redbud Terrace, the Inverness man reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with the rear of the water tanker.

The driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the water tanker was reported to be uninjured.

The FHP is currently investigating the cause of the collision.
