INVERNESS, Fla. – A $1.3 million project to improve sections of the Withlacoochee State Trail in Citrus County is set to start on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024. Construction will be done in phases, closing one segment of the trail at a time for up to several weeks.
The first closure will be Segment 1, from mile marker 27 to 28.58, located roughly south of the Fort Cooper Trailhead to Eden Drive.

This section is expected to reopen in early September, weather permitting.
Trail users are asked to stay off closed segments for their safety until they are reopened.
