PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A 41-year-old inmate, Troy Dorsey, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Pinellas County Jail early this morning.
Dorsey had been arrested by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the jail at approximately 4:55 a.m. on October 3rd, 2024. He was facing charges of obstructing or resisting an officer without violence, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Just hours later, at approximately 6:43 a.m. on October 4th, detention staff found Dorsey unresponsive. Life-saving measures were performed by detention staff and EMS personnel, but Dorsey was pronounced dead at 7:27 a.m.
Detectives investigating the death say there is no evidence that Dorsey was involved in any altercations or sustained any injuries while in custody. The investigation is ongoing, but foul play is not suspected at this time.
Dorsey’s next of kin has been notified.
