HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell at the Falkenburg Road Jail earlier this week.
According to HCSO, on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at approximately 1:22 p.m., deputies discovered Matthew Garon, 45, suffering from suspected self-inflicted injuries within his jail cell. Deputies on the scene immediately provided medical assistance before transporting Garon to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Despite medical intervention, Garon’s condition deteriorated. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital this morning.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an examination to determine the official cause of death. HCSO has confirmed that Garon’s next of kin has been notified of his passing.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office stated that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Garon’s death is currently underway.
