An Indiana mother who admitted to sometimes forgetting to feed her infant son has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for his starvation death.

Caylin Monroe, 23, was convicted last month of murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death. The charges stemmed from the February 2022 death of her 3-month-old son, Silas Chance-Kent Scott.

Authorities were called to the family’s home after Silas was found unresponsive. An autopsy revealed that the infant died of starvation, and there was no evidence of food in his stomach.

During police questioning, Monroe claimed that she sometimes forgot to feed Silas if he was quiet or if she was busy caring for her other children. The baby’s father, Jakob Scott, also allegedly admitted that they didn’t feed Silas if he didn’t cry.

Scott faces the same charges as Monroe and has pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled for December 2nd.
