Indiana Man Charged With Murder After Shaking Girlfriend’s Toddler

An Indiana man is facing murder and aggravated battery charges after allegedly shaking his girlfriend’s 21-month-old daughter, leading to her death.

Jesse Sartin initially claimed the child’s injuries were from an accidental fall, but later confessed to shaking her when she became upset after a bath.

The child suffered brain swelling and severe hemorrhages, ultimately passing away on August 1st. An autopsy ruled her death a homicide.

“The little girl was transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where emergency brain surgery was immediately performed to relieve brain swelling and pressure inside her skull. The little girl passed away on Thursday, August 1st,” said Prosecutor Lynn Deddens.

Sartin was charged on August 2nd and made his first court appearance on August 5th. Prosecutors revealed part of a letter Sartin wrote to the child’s mother, admitting to shaking the child in an attempt to calm her down.
