Following the steps of his left-wing counterparts, like Gavin Newsom and Larry Hogan, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker thought he would get in on the smear-DeSantis campaign.
Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke in New York and Illinois on Monday. DeSantis was invited by a local police union and used the visit to promote his law-and-order message.
“The reason why you have crime that has spiraled out of control in so many of these different areas is because you have politicians putting woke ideology ahead of public safety,” DeSantis said in Elmhurst, Illinois on Monday.
“During Covid, even though your governor would lock you down, his family was in Florida,” DeSantis said, referring to Pritzker family members who retreated to their second home in Florida during the pandemic.
Ahead of that event, Pritzker, a Democrat, whose state includes one of the most lawless and violent cities in America, decided to trash DeSantis — and got schooled for it.

Pritzker told the media that DeSantis “doesn’t represent the values of the people in Illinois. In fact, he is the antithesis of that. He’s demonstrated that he’s homophobic, that he has tendencies to promote racism.” But offered no examples.
But based on his opposition to DeSantis’ opposition to woke policies like sexually transitioning children and the anti-white Critical Race Theory, it would seem Pritzker must support such radical ideas.
It’s also clear Pritzker is not much for law and order either.
In a Jan. 29 tweet by the Twitter account Chicago Contrarian, it was noted that since Democrat Lori Lightfoot, who happens to be black and gay, and therefore right up Pritzker’s alley, became mayor of Chicago in 2019, the Windy City “has suffered 2,278 homicides and over 9,000 shot.”
“Since January 1, the city has endured 41 homicides and 194 shot. Yet here Lightfoot is blissfully dancing and asking voters to return her to office. Lightfoot is detached from reality.”

One might ask which politician, DeSantis or Pritzker, really doesn’t care about black lives with all those homicides piling up in Chicago.
Nonetheless, the Twitter account DeSantis War Room, which supports the Florida Republican, called out Pritzker for being a hypocrite.
“SURE, @GovPritzker … Florida is such a terrible and bigoted state that YOU sent YOUR family here in Spring 2020, while you locked down your own constituents. Illinois kids (but not your daughter!) were locked out of school for more than a year,” DWR tweeted on Monday.
“Also, Illinois has the most out-migration per capita of any state. Florida is #1 in domestic in-migration. Pretty clear where @GovPritzker attacks on @RonDeSantisFL come from… insecurity!”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s policies have helped push crime in Florida to a 50-year low. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement recently released numbers for 2021, the most recent available.

Overall, the number of crimes was down 8.3% compared to 2020, and the crime rate dropped 9.5%.
Within that subset, murders fell 14.2%, robberies dropped by 17.5%, aggravated assaults dipped by 1.6%, and burglaries declined by 15.1%.

Governor DeSantis’ commitment to law enforcement and protecting Floridians is paying off.
Last month, the Republican governor unveiled a legislative package to not only improve the lowest crime rate in a half-century but also distinguish Florida from crime-friendly blue states.
That proposal includes: the abolition of cash bail, a boost in penalties for drug-related crimes, more aggressive action against human smuggling, tougher punishment for child rapists, no early release for sex criminals, an effort to make the death penalty “more feasible,” and a pledge to rein in soft-on-crime judges and prosecutors.
DeSantis’ office also pointed to a bill he signed last year to recruit law enforcement officers from other states with a $5,000 moving bonus.

“Other states endanger their citizens by making it easier to put criminals back on the street. Here in Florida, we will continue to support and enact policies to protect our communities and keep Floridians safe,” DeSantis said in a statement.
“Florida will remain the law and order state,” DeSantis said.
“Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership and amid Florida’s 50-year low in crime, Americans are coming to Florida in droves,” DeSantis’ office said in a statement. “For the first time since 1957, Florida was the fastest-growing state in the U.S. in 2022.”
