U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Bilal Karayigit, 26, an illegal Turkish national, in Burlington on February 19th, in connection with rape charges.
According to ICE, Karayigit is accused of raping a Massachusetts resident.
“Bilal Karayigit stands accused of brutally victimizing a resident of our community,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “He represents a significant threat to the members of our Massachusetts neighborhoods that ICE will not tolerate. We will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien threats to New England.”

Karayigit lawfully entered the United States on July 12, 2022, at JFK International Airport in New York but subsequently violated the terms of his admission.
He was arraigned in Brighton District Court on December 5, 2023, on charges of rape and indecent assault and battery. ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the court that same day. However, the court released Karayigit from custody on April 24, 2024, ignoring the detainer.
Karayigit was later arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court in Boston on June 11, 2024, on charges of rape, indecent assault and battery, and kidnapping.

The Boston Police Department arrested Karayigit on September 19, 2024, on warrants related to his pending charges. ICE again lodged an immigration detainer with the Nashua Street Jail in Boston, but he was released on September 26, 2024.
Following his recent arrest by ICE, Karayigit has been served with a notice to appear before a Justice Department immigration judge and remains in ICE custody.
