A 30-year-old Ecuadorian national, Ricardo Andre Barrera-Peleaz, who was in the United States illegally and wanted by authorities in Ecuador for rape, was deported on May 21st by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston.

“Ricardo Andre Barrera-Peleaz fled rape charges in his own country and attempted to hide out in Massachusetts,” said ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons. “He represented a significant threat to the residents of our community, and we couldn’t allow him to potentially victimize someone else. Now, he will face justice in Ecuador. ERO Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by apprehending and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England.”

Barrera-Peleaz initially entered the United States legally on August 31, 2022, in Miami, but subsequently violated the terms of his entry.

Ecuadorian authorities issued an arrest warrant for him on rape charges on February 2, 2024. ERO Boston became aware of his presence in their jurisdiction on March 14th and arrested him near his Worcester residence on April 4th.

He was then issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge and taken into custody. On April 29th, the judge ordered his removal from the United States to Ecuador.
