Illegal Immigrant From Mexico Gets 11 Years In Prison For Meth Distribution North Carolina

Antonio Abrego-Bega, a 37-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced Monday to 135 months (over 11 years) in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for distributing methamphetamine in the Charlotte area.

According to court records, law enforcement identified Abrego-Bega as a methamphetamine dealer in Charlotte between September and October 2021.

A confidential informant working with authorities purchased over 50 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded firearm from Abrego-Bega in September 2021.

Subsequent controlled purchases also involved methamphetamine and firearms. Abrego-Bega was arrested on October 20, 2021, after a controlled purchase, with law enforcement seizing approximately 334 grams of methamphetamine and digital scales from him.

He pleaded guilty to distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine on February 22, 2023. Currently in federal custody, he will be transferred to the federal Bureau of Prisons to serve his sentence.
