Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, has been arrested and charged with the rape and murder of Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five from Bel Air.

Morin’s body was discovered on the Ma & Pa Trail on August 6, 2023, after she was reported missing the previous day.

Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler announced the arrest Saturday, revealing that DNA evidence recovered from the crime scene matched Martinez-Hernandez’s profile in a national database.

Martinez-Hernandez, 24, was residing in Rockville, MD at the time of the murder.

According to the sheriff, Martinez-Hernandez entered the country illegally and has no known criminal history. He was apprehended without incident and is currently being held without bail.

Morin’s disappearance and subsequent discovery sparked a widespread search effort and deep community concern. The news of her tragic death and the circumstances surrounding it have devastated her family and friends.

“This is a senseless and horrific crime,” said Sheriff Gahler. “Rachel Morin was a beloved member of our community, and her loss has been felt deeply. We are committed to ensuring that justice is served for her and her family.”
