A 52-year-old Idaho man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Dedric Dwayne Rivers, of Moscow, Idaho, pleaded guilty to the charges on October 22, 2024, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Wendy Berger.
On April 27, 2024, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at Jacksonville International Airport discovered a firearm and ammunition in Rivers’ checked luggage during a routine screening. The firearm was an FN509 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a loaded magazine and three additional loaded extended magazines.

Rivers initially claimed he thought the gun case only contained ammunition. However, in a later phone conversation with his mother, he admitted to previously traveling to Jacksonville with a firearm.
Due to prior felony convictions, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, Rivers is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the TSA, the Jacksonville Airport Authority, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Kelly S. Milliron prosecuted the case.
